HC Deb 17 February 1961 vol 634 c181W
Mr. Lipton

asked the Postmaster-General when he replied to the application of the British Broadcasting Corporation to start a public colour television service; and whether he will publish the terms of his reply.

Mr. Bevins:

A reply was sent on the 2nd January, 1961. It referred the Corporation to what I said in the House on 14th December, 1960, and confirmed that I did not feel able to approve the B.B.C. proposals for the start of a colour television service since I considered that a decision on line standards must come first.
