HC Deb 15 February 1961 vol 634 c151W
Sir W. Bromley-Davenport

asked the Minister of Transport what is the number of highway authorities which have submitted lists of the schemes they would like to start during the next four years; and what is the estimated total cost of the schemes which have been submitted to him.

Mr. Marples:

Lists were submitted by 166 highway authorities but many smaller authorities included their schemes in the lists of county councils. The estimated total cost of all the schemes submitted for the four years is about £375 million which would attract grants of about £260 million. The three-year programme which I hope to announce shortly, involving grants of about £100 million, will include the most urgent of these schemes.
