§ 52. Mr. P. Williamsasked the Minister of Transport what proportion of goods came into Great Britain in foreign ships during the years 1930, 1950, and 1960.
§ Mr. Marples:I regret that the information is not available. In 1936, 32 per cent. by value of our imports were carried in foreign ships. In 1949, the last year for which such information is available, the percentage was 24. Statistics of shipping entering United Kingdom ports with cargo suggest that foreign vessels now carry a higher percentage of imports than in 1949.
