HC Deb 09 February 1961 vol 634 cc83-4W
87. Mr. D. Foot

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many persons have been refused visas to visit this country during the past twelve months; whether such persons are informed of the reasons for the refusal; and what opportunities are afforded to them to make representations to himself or to officers of his Department.

Mr. R. A. Butler:

The figure for 1960 is not yet available. In 1959, 2,575 United Kingdom visa applications made in foreign countries were refused. Reasons for refusal are normally given by my Department on request and it is open to any unsuccessful applicant, or to any person in this country acting on his behalf, to make representations to the Home Office.

Mr. D. Foot

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many persons have been refused visas to visit this country in each year since the beginning of 1946.
