HC Deb 09 February 1961 vol 634 c93W
108. Mr. Owen

asked the Minister of Education, as representing the Minister for Science, what progress has been made in establishing the National Lending and Reference Science Libraries; and whether he will make a statement.

Sir D. Eccles:

Adaptation of buildings at Boston Spa in Yorkshire, to house the National Lending Library for Science and Technology, will be completed in the spring, when transfer of the unit already in existence in London will begin. The library is expected to be fully operational by the end of 1962.

As explained in a statement by my noble Friend the Minister for Science in another place on 31st May, last year, it is proposed to house the National Reference Library for Science and Invention in a new building on the South Bank, which it is hoped to complete by the end of 1965.
