HC Deb 09 February 1961 vol 634 c101W
Sir R. Glyn

asked the Minister of Health if he will state the sum by which the estimated cost of the National Health Service for the current year exceeds the cost for the first full year in which the Service was operating; and if he will give the equivalent figures for the cost to the Treasury in the two years concerned.

Mr. Powell:

The figures for Great Britain (excluding local health services) are:—

Excess of latest 1960–61 estimate over actual cost in 1949–50 (£m. to nearest million)
Total cost 408
Net cost to Exchequer 299
