HC Deb 09 February 1961 vol 634 c95W
111. Mr. Awbery

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will give the reason for the deportation of Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Wicks, who are British subjects, from the island of Malta; and if he will hold up the operation of the order until a full inquiry is made into the matter.

Mr. Iain Macleod:

Mr. Wicks entered Malta as a visitor on 20th April, 1960, and as such was entitled to stay for three months. Shortly before the expiry of this period he applied for an indefinite extension of his stay, which, after investigation, was not granted. As Mr. Wicks and his wife continued to remain in Malta an order has been made for their removal. The case has been fully investigated and I see no reason to intervene.
