HC Deb 09 February 1961 vol 634 cc95-6W
Miss Vickers

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what arrangements are being made to continue a service of transcription material for schools in view of the decision to discontinue the Colonial Schools Transcription Unit of the British Broadcasting Corporation.

Mr. Iain Macleod:

I am glad to say that with the agreement of my right hon. Friends the Foreign Secretary and the Commonwealth Secretary I have been able to invite the British Council in collaboration with the B.B.C. to arrange for the provision of a new service of recorded educational material. If current negotiations for the use of certain types of material can be satisfactorily concluded I hope that the arrangements so successfully initiated by the Colonial Schools Transcription Unit of the B.B.C. will develop on a broader front and prove of great value in educational development overseas.
