asked the Minister of Transport if he will make a statement on the progress of the Tops of the Valleys Road, South Wales.

Mr. Marples:

Work on Stage One of the Heads of the Valleys Road, between Abergavenny and Brynmawr is due to be finished in July, 1962. The contractors are making steady progress but have been hindered by bad weather for several months.

Work on Stage Two, between Dowlais Top and Hirwaun, should start this year
