HC Deb 02 February 1961 vol 633 c149W
78. Brigadier Clarke

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, in view of the fact that there were 17 murders in the first 23 days of January, what action he proposes to take to deal with the situation.

Mr. R. A. Butler

I have not yet received full information regarding offences committed in this period. The number of murders varies considerably from month to month, and an incidence of murder over a short period of the order specified by my hon. and gallant Friend could not in itself be taken as a final indication of a particular trend. I am arranging, however, for the returns to be analysed in more detail.
