HC Deb 02 February 1961 vol 633 c162W
Mr. Jennings

asked the Minister of Power if he is aware of the shortage of household coal for distribution in many parts of the country; and what immediate steps he intends to take in order to remedy this position.

Mr. George

The National Coal Board is making every effort to meet the present strong demand for house coal. It has increased its output of large coal and special arrangements have been made with the British Transport Commission to speed up the distribution of coal to the domestic market. In the first twelve weeks of this winter the Board has despatched 12½ per cent. more coal to the domestic market than last winter.
