§ 85. Mr. Edenasked the Postmaster-General what steps he is taking to end the delays experienced by many telephone users, particularly in the provinces.
§ Mr. Bevins:I am sorry about these difficulties. There has been an exceptionally heavy increase in telephone traffic, and in some places there are staff and equipment shortages. I am doing all I can to put things right, and, in particular, I hope that improvements in pay and conditions which are now being introduced will help the recruitment of telephone operators.
