HC Deb 21 December 1961 vol 651 cc189-90W
Mr. Mulley

asked the Minister of Transport how many authorised testing stations there are in Sheffield for cars requiring a test before 1st January next; if he is satisfied that the owners of such cars can reasonably conform to the prescribed date, in view of the lack of publicity undertaken by his Department in Sheffield; and if he will consider extending the date when the order comes into force.

Mr. Marples

There are 144 testing stations within the county borough boundary. This capacity allowed owners of the vehicles concerned adequate opportunity to get them tested by the end of the year. I do not accept that the publicity given to the requirement has been inadequate to inform those affected. To the last part of the Question the Answer is "No".
