HC Deb 21 December 1961 vol 651 cc177-8W
43. Mr. Shepherd

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many cases have been reported to the Metropolitan Police alleging wilful damage to minicabs or their drivers; and if he will state the number of cases in which prosecutions have been instituted.

Mr. Renton

The latest available figures show that the Metropolitan Police have received 22 complaints of wilful damage to minicabs and 21 complaints of assault of minicab drivers. Only in one case did the police have sufficient evidence on which to base a prosecution for either assault or wilful damage. In two other cases prosecutions have been instituted on other grounds.

50. Mr. Lipton

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many drivers of taxicabs and minicabs have, since the inception of the minicab service, been fined or imprisoned in the Metropolitan Police area for breach of the peace or of the traffic laws; and what sentences were imposed in each case.

52. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many offences have been committed in the Metropolitan Police area during the past six months by taxi-cab and minicab drivers, respectively; in how many cases offences have arisen out of rivalry between the drivers of these two types of vehicle; how many of each class of driver have been proved guilty; and what penalties have been imposed.

Mr. Renton

I regret that the information requested is not available.
