§ 73. Mr. W. Hamiltonasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is aware of dissatisfaction among consumers and producers concerning the way in which the agricultural deficiency payments scheme is working; and, in view of the fact that neither consumer nor producer is getting the full benefit of such payments, whether he will set up a committee of inquiry to examine the matter.
§ Mr. LeburnThe Government's system of agricultural support by way of guaranteed prices and deficiency payments has been generally recognised by both consumers and producers as effectively fulfilling the dual purpose of giving the nation the benefit of world food prices and ensuring the maintenance of a stable and efficient home agriculture. My right hon. Friend sees no need for a committee of inquiry.
