HC Deb 20 December 1961 vol 651 cc160-1W
57. Mr. Brockway

asked the Minister of Labour if he has now received a report of the first residential course for shop stewards at Missenden Abbey, designed by Mr. Graham Thomas of the Slough College of Further Education, and initiated by his Department; and if he will encourage the establishment of such courses throughout the country.

Mr. Green

Yes. We have had a preliminary report on this course which is one of a number of courses for shop stewards and trade union officers. I think these courses can be most useful and we seek to encourage them. As my right hon. Friend explained in reply to the right hon. Member for Llanelly (Mr. J. Griffiths) on 4th December, he intends to discuss with both sides of industry what more can be done in this field.
