§ Mr. Boyd-CarpenterThe 26s. single rate of retirement pension was equivalent to 19.4 per cent. of men's average earnings as shown by the Ministry of Labour's inquiry in April 1948, and the 57s. 6d. single rate of pension introduced in April, 1961, was equivalent to 19.1 per cent. of average earnings recorded in that month, which is the latest for which the relevant figures are available.
