Mr. Willeyasked the Minister of Education whether he will make a statement on the qualifications of those students who were admitted to teacher training colleges in the latest available year, and, in particular, how many of the students admitted had two or more A level passes in the General Certificate of Education.

EcclesOf the students admitted to three-year courses of general training in 1960–61 about 35 per cent. of both men and women had two or more passes at "A" level and a further 25 per cent. one pass at "A" level. The evidence available suggests that academic standards have increased significantly over recent years and I expect them to continue to do so.
