HC Deb 14 December 1961 vol 651 cc58-9W
27. Mr. Loveys

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he is satisfied with the present arrangements for notifying poultry farmers of an outbreak of fowl pest in their area; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Vane

Poultry-keepers within half a mile of an outbreak are visited and the movement of poultry within that area is restricted for at least 28 days.

Where there are a number of outbreaks, the restrictions may be applied to a wider area. Notice is then given through the Press and the B.B.C. I am satisfied that the present arrangements give a good measure of control.
