HC Deb 13 December 1961 vol 651 c52W
62. Sir C. Osborne

asked the Minister of Labour how many people are now employed by the steel industry; and how many of these are on short-time.

Mr. Hare

Separate figures are not available for the steel industry alone. At the end of October, 485,100 persons were employed in the iron and steel industries taken together. The estimated number of operatives on short-time in the week ended 28th October was 18,700.
