HC Deb 05 December 1961 vol 650 cc152-3W
Mr. J. Griffiths

asked the Minister of Labour how many and which local education committees have already provided courses of training for shop stewards and trade union officers; and what further steps he contemplates to encourage the establishment of these courses by the education committees.

Mr. Hare

This information is not available. Institutions of further education and bodies concerned with adult education arrange courses for shop stewards and trade union officers where there is local support. In consultation with my right hon. Friends the Minister of Education and the Secretary of State for Scotland I am proposing to discuss with both sides of industry what more might be done. I have already had discussions with the motor industry, with encouraging results. If the right hon. Member has any suggestions, I should be glad if he would get in touch with me.
