HC Deb 05 December 1961 vol 650 c143W
Mr. Wainwright

asked the Postmaster-General if, in view of the difficulty that many old-age pensioners experience in finding in one payment the £4 for their television licence, he will consider making arrangements for those pensioners, who so desire, to have 5s. per week deducted from their pension over a continuous period of 16 weeks.

Mr. Bevins

I think that existing savings facilities generally meet the needs of people who wish to set aside small sums at regular intervals in order to pay for licences. I will, however, discuss the implications of the hon. Member's suggestion with my right hon. Friend the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance.
