HC Deb 05 December 1961 vol 650 c152W
Mr. E. L. Mallalieu

asked the Minister of Education to what extent there is uniformity in the grants made by different education authorities for boarding school expenses of children whose parents are not in the United Kingdom; and if he will give the figures of such grants made by the Lindsey County Council and Blackpool Corporation.

Sir D. Eccles

111 out of 146 local education authorities are following broadly the recommendations of the Working Party on Assistance with the Cost of Boarding Education (published by Her Majesty's Stationery Office in 1960), and at least nine of the other authorities are reviewing their arrangements. Blackpool are using the scales recommended by the Working Party. Lines. Lindsey are about to change their scale for one closer to the Working Party's. Details of the Lindsey scale are being sent to the hon. Member, together with a copy of the report of the Working Party.
