HC Deb 04 August 1961 vol 645 cc240-1W
Mr. C. Pannell

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department why an urgent special letter written on 14th July to the hon. Member for Leeds, West, from a prisoner in Her Majesty's Prison, Canterbury, was not posted from the prison until 27th July; why it was improperly addressed; and whether he will cause inquiries to be made into the posting and the subject matter of the letter, which alleged delay in providing necessary medical aid to an injured man.

Mr. R. A. Butler

The letter was stopped in accordance with normal practice because the prisoner had not complied with the rules about prisoners' correspondence with hon. Members. The address on the letter was that given by the prisoner. I am writing to the hon. Member about the substance of the prisoner's complaint, which I am satisfied is unfounded.
