HC Deb 04 August 1961 vol 645 c249W
Mr. G. M. Thomson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether the exemption of children from school to assist in the potato harvest will cease after this year's harvest.

Mr. Maclay

As intimated by my hon. Friend the Joint Under-Secretary of State for Scotland during the debate on the Committee stage of the Expiring Laws Continuance Bill on 16th November, 1960, it is the Government's intention this year to ask the House to renew the Education (Exemptions) (Scotland) Act, 1947, to cover the 1962 potato harvest. No exemptions will be granted after 1962.
