§ Mr. W. Hamiltonasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer when the next report of the Council on Prices, Productivity and Incomes, is expected; and whether he will make a statement on the future of the Council.
§ Mr. BarberSince the Council have only this week published their Fourth Report I have no information about the timing of a further Report. As regards the future of the Council, this is a matter which will naturally come under consideration in relation to the objective which my right hon. and learned Friend explained to the House last week of reviewing our arrangements for economic planning with the object of establishing a more purposeful system than that which we now have. As my right hon. and learned Friend has already said, this does not mean that he is not conscious of the very valuable work which this Council and other bodies have done and are doing within their terms of reference.
