§ 51. Mr. Dempseyasked the Minister of Transport if, in view of the failure of 53 per cent. of the persons who underwent driving tests during the year ended 13th July, 1961, he will investigate the main reasons for these large-scale failures.
§ Mr. MarplesCandidates fail the driving test mainly because they do not satisfy my examiners that they are competent to drive without causing danger to other road users. Inexperience or faulty instruction are the chief causes of failure, and I do not see What useful purpose would be served by an investigation of the kind suggested by the hon. Member.
