Evansasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs if he will state the total amount advanced to building societies under the provisions of the House Purchase and Housing Act, 1959, the amount now outstanding, the rates of interest charged and the net loss or gain to the Exchequer.
§ Mr. BrookeThe total amount advanced to date is about £56 million, of which the amount outstanding is about £55 million. The rate of interest charged has varied between 5 and 6 per cent., but I cannot estimate the net gain or loss to the Exchequer.
