Mr. W. Hamilton

asked the Minister of Works if he will itemise the proposed expenditure of £2,830 on the Military Knights' Houses, Windsor Castle; and if he will state the purpose of such houses.

Lord John Hope

There are eighteen houses built in the 16th and early 17th centuries as part of the fabric of the Lower Ward of Windsor Castle for the Foundation of the Military Knights of Windsor. They still provide living accommodation for the Military Knights. The details of the proposed expenditure (less £95 receipts from tenants) are:

£
1,600 for day to day cleaning, maintenance and repair of the structure and sanitary services
275 for minor repairs to lighting and hot water services
250 for external painting
800 for renewal of defective stonework of chimneys and parapet wall.
