HC Deb 19 April 1961 vol 638 c103W
64. Sir D. Robertson

asked the Lord Privy Seal if he will, in conjunction with his colleagues concerned with fisheries, seek to convene a meeting in London of the North Sea fishing nations, with a view to the conservation of 175 fishing grounds stretching from North Shetland to the English Channel.

Mr. Heath

All the North Sea fishing nations adhere to the Convention of 1946 against over-fishing in the North-East Atlantic. Under this agreement conservation measures are in force for the waters mentioned by the hon. Gentleman and are reviewed at periodic meetings by a Permanent Commission set up under the Convention. The next meeting of this Commission is to take place in Copenhagen in May. A special conference is not, therefore, necessary.
