HC Deb 19 April 1961 vol 638 cc96-7W
38. Mr. Holland

asked the Postmaster-General how many telephone subscribers in Acton have availed themselves of the telephone credit card service; and what percentage of the total number of subscribers this figure represents.

Mr. Bevins

There are 19 subscribers on the Acorn exchange, which serves the Acton area, who hold 36 credit cards. This number represents 0.3 per cent. of the total subscribers on the exchange.

46. Mr. Holland

asked the Postmaster-General what progress has been made with the telephone credit card service.

Mr. Bevins

More than 38,000 cards have been issued and about 150,000 credit card calls are being made every month. The cards can now be used for inland and overseas telephone calls and for inland and overseas telegrams dictated over the telephone. They can also be used abroad for telephone calls to this country from no less than 51 other countries, including Canada and the United States of America.
