§ Mr. Critchleyasked the Minister of Defence on what evidence he reached his conclusion, as stated in the 1961 Defence White Paper, that the threat to this country is mainly from manned aircraft.
§ Mr. WatkinsonThere is no such statement in the Defence White Paper, but my hon. Friend may have in mind the statement in the Memorandum by the Secretary of State for Air accompanying the Air Estimates that "the threat today is mainly from manned bombers". This is a carefully considered view of the present situation based on a careful examination of all the evidence available. The hon. Member will not expect me to say more.
