HC Deb 17 April 1961 vol 638 c63W
67. Mr. Abse

asked the Minister of Health what was the original estimated cost of the extension to the burns unit at St. Lawrence Hospital, Chepstow; what has been the cost incurred to date; what was the original date of completion of the scheme; what is the reason for the delay; and, in view of the recent collapse of a large section of the theatre ceiling, what action is intended to be taken against the contractors.

Miss Pitt

This unit has been extended on three separate occasions between January, 1955, and December, 1959. The estimated cost of the three schemes was £37,127 and the actual cost £44,475. Completion periods were put at 6, 12 and 4 months, and completion was achieved in 7, 15 and 4 months respectively. The reasons for the collapse of three square yards of the theatre ceiling are still under investigation.
