HC Deb 17 April 1961 vol 638 c76W
Sir J. Maitland

asked the Postmaster-General if he is aware that the reception of the British Broadcasting Corporation sound broadcasts in Horncastle is unsatisfactory; and what steps are being taken to improve reception in this area.

Mr. Bevins

The B.B.C. tells me that the Light and Third programmes on long and medium waves are satisfactorily received in Horncastle, but interference from an East German station continues to spoil medium wave reception of the North Home Service after dark.

All three programmes are available on V.H.F. from the B.B.C. Holme Moss station provided suitable outdoor aerials are used. The B.B.C. expects that an alternative and stronger V.H.F. sound signal will be receivable in Horncastle when the East Lines station, which is to be built in Stage 2 of the B.B.C.'s satellite scheme, is completed.
