§ Mr. Awberyasked the Civil Lord of the Admiralty if he is aware that, when the transfer of the naval dockyards at Malta took place, an undertaking was given by Her Majesty's Government to maintain the equivalent load of naval repair work for two years, and that this period comes to an end next month; and what steps are being taken to maintain this load and retain full employment on the island.
§ Mr. C. Ian Orr-EwingI am aware of the undertaking given. After that date there will inevitably be some reduction in the load, but the present prospect is that a fair amount of naval work will continue during 1961. The question of the level of employment in the dockyard and on the Island generally, are matters for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Colonies.
