HL Deb 23 November 1960 vol 226 cc855-6WA
LORD SALTOUN

asked Her Majesty's Government if they will give the number of deaths and death rates per million living from accidental drowning, by sex, England and Wales, 1931–59 (excluding non-civilian males from September 3, 1939, and females from June 1, 1940, to December 31, 1949) and say whether the most recent figures show any significant deviation from the norm.

LORD ST. OSWALD

The following table sets out the figures for deaths classified as due to accidental drowning. There have been minor changes in the basis of classification during this period, but in general the figures include deaths from drowning in baths, water tanks,et cetera, as well as deaths from bathing in the sea, rivers, et cetera, but they exclude deaths resulting from accidents from boats. The variations of the figures in the most recent years show no significant trends.
