HC Deb 21 November 1960 vol 630 c86W
Mr. Lipton

asked the Minister of Transport when the traffic survey for the Greater London area will be made; who will conduct the survey; and what are the terms of reference.

Mr. Marples

The traffic survey will be the joint responsibility of my Department and of the London County Council which is co-operating fully with me. A firm of consultants will be appointed to conduct the survey. The broad objective is to obtain the basic information on traffic in Greater London required to establish where new and improved roads should be provided for the County of London.

The completion of the survey and full analysis of the results will probably take 18 months, but the planned programme of road improvements will not be held up meanwhile.
