§ Sir S. Summersasked the Minister of Labour if he will now make a statement on progress with call-up to the Forces under the National Service scheme.
§ Mr. HareIt has already been announced that there will be no further call-up of men to the Forces under the National Service scheme after the end of this year. In fact, it has been found convenient to complete the arrangements during November. The men who received enlistment notices instructing them to join their units on 17th November are accordingly the last to be called up under the scheme, and no further enlistment notices will be issued.
I should like to take this opportunity of expressing my thanks to all members of hardship committees, conscientious objector tribunals and others who have given advice and assistance in the human and industrial problems which call-up has inevitably raised.
