§ Sir G. Willsasked the Minister of Transport whether he will make a statement, following discussions between his Department and local authority associations, about the problem of litter and unsanitary conditions on lay-bys.
§ Mr. MarplesThe meeting between representatives of the local authority associations and of my Department and the other Departments concerned was exploratory. There is no easy solution to this problem because so many lay-bys are a long way from towns and their services, but a number of suggestions put forward at the meeting are being further examined. As an immediate contribution to the solution of the litter problem, I would urge motorists to take their litter home with them whenever they can.
