HC Deb 09 November 1960 vol 629 cc44-5W
57. Mr. G. Wilson

asked the Minister of Transport whether he will indicate the proportion of vehicles which, when submitted for test under the Vehicles Testing Scheme, have failed.

Mr. Marples

I do not expect to have country-wide figures based on the first six weeks of the Scheme until next month, but at the Ministry's testing station at Hendon nearly half the vehicles presented during this period have failed at the first test. Over half of those which failed have so far returned to Hendon for a re-test, and about 90 per cent. of these have passed. In the country as a whole, out of 70,000 vehicles tested during the last three weeks of September, 40 per cent. failed the initial test.
