asked the Minister of Transport if he will make a statement about the progress of discussions for a nuclear-powered British merchant ship; and when he expects such a vessel to be launched.

As regards the first part of the Question, I have nothing to add to the Answer I gave to my hon. Friend the Member for Tynemouth (Dame Irene Ward) on 26th October. A nuclear ship could be launched within two to three years of the placing of an order, but it would be a further two years or so before it would be in commission.
