§ Mr. C. Ian Orr-EwingDuring 1959, 2,965 boys sat the examination for entry as Admiralty apprentices; of these 873 were offered vacancies and 827 accepted. The total figure of 2,965 include many candidates who sat for two or more of the three examinations which take place annually.
