§ 59. Dame Irene Wardasked the Minister of Education, as representing the Minister for Science, if he will make available in the most convenient form consistent with security and giving the widest detail, the amount of research work placed by the Atomic Energy Authority with private industry and 126W undertaken by the Authority itself, respectively.
§ Sir D. EcclesMy noble Friend is advised by the Atomic Energy Authority that expenditure on civil research and development work placed by the Authority with private industry totalled about £9 million between 1st August, 1954 and 31st March, 1960. The greater part of this sum has been spent in the latter part of the period. It would not be in the public interest to reveal the total expenditure on research and development by the Authority.
