Mr. Slaterasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs, in view of the recognised need to deal with colliery slag-heaps and the action which has already been taken in this respect, if he will send a circular to all local authorities drawing their attention to the need for similar action in areas where sand and gravel is being extracted, in order to restore the land for other uses.

The Department's memorandum on "Control of Mineral Working", a revised edition of which was sent to planning authorities last week gives advice on this. I am sending the hon. Member a copy.
