§ Mr. Stonehouseasked the Minister of State for Commonwealth Relations if Her Majesty's Government have now examined the Native Affairs (Amendment) Act, 1959, passed by the Southern Rhodesian Legislature, with a view to disallowing it under the reserve powers of the United Kingdom, as such law is discriminating against Africans; and whether it will now take such action.
§ Mr. AlportThe power of disallowance may only be exercised within one year from the date when an Act is assented to by the Governor. As this Act was assented to by the Governor on 1st May, 1959, the period in this case has now expired. Before it expired, my noble Friend had decided not to advise disallowance.
