§ 45. Mr. Dribergasked the hon. Member for Chelmsford, as Second Church Estates Commissioner representing the Church Commissioners, if he will publish in HANSARD, for the information of hon. Members in connection with Section 8 of the City of London (Guild Churches) Bill, a list of the existing ward churches in the City of London; what representations have been received from the aldermen and common council of any ward who may desire to change their ward church in accordance with the procedure laid down in this Section; and what reasons for such a change have been given.
§ Sir H. AshtonThe answer to the first part of the Question is "Yes": in regard to the second no representations—within the meaning of this word as used in Clause 8 of the Bill—have been received8W from any alderman and Common Councilmen who may desire to change their ward church, because as the law now stands—Guild Churches Act of 1952—neither the Bishop of London nor anyone else has any power to implement such representations, and the City authorities are well aware that this is so.
At the same time unofficial discussions have taken place on this subject between the City authorities and the Archdeacon of London.
