HC Deb 04 May 1960 vol 622 c86W
Mr. G. Elfed Davies

asked the Minister of Power what were the annual payments made in respect of subsidence by his Department to the National Coal Board for the years 1947 to 1956, inclusive, and the first seven months of 1957; and what proportion of these payments were in respect of works incurred in the county of Glamorgan.

Mr. George

Payments to the National Coal Board under the provisions of Section 11 of the Coal Mining (Subsidence) Act, 1950, during each of the financial years were:

Year Amount
£
1951–52 500,000
1952–53 100,000
1953–54 260,000
1954–55 250,000
1955–56 250,000
1956–57 250,000
1957–58 250,000
Total £1,860,000

Separate figures for the County of Glamorgan are not readily available, but the relevant expenditure by the National Coal Board in the South Western Division amounted to£697,854 out of a total of£4,337,167 for all Divisions. On this proportion the grants for the South Western Division would represent about£300,000.
