asked the Minister of Transport if he will now make a statement about the completion date of the Maidstone by-pass.

Mr. Hay

The eastern and longer section of the Maidstone by-pass and a short length of the western section should be completed and open to traffic by Whitsun. The rest of the western section will not be completed until the autumn because of unforeseen difficulties with the foundations of the new Medway bridge.
