HC Deb 04 May 1960 vol 622 c86W
Mr. Ellis Smith

asked the President of the Board of Trade what official study has been made of the reasons for the declining United Kingdom share in world trade; and what action it is proposed to take to increase our exports.

Mr. Maudling

The United Kingdom's export performance and the measures which the Government take to help exporters are kept under constant study. My colleagues and I consider that the encouragement of our export trade is the most urgent responsibility of the Board of Trade, and we are constantly seeking means of bringing about an increase.
