Mr. McInnes

asked the Minister of Education, as representing the Minister for Science, what steps the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research has now taken in the matter of research into production methods in shipbuilding.

As a first step the use of computers to eliminate manual operations in the mould loft is being examined.

The Department is also continuing discussions with the industry on the whole subject of shipbuilding research including research on production methods.
